Kumi Naidoo is Secretary General and CEO of CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation since 2000. He was recently appointed by the UN Secretary General to the Eminent Persons Group on United Nations Civil Society Relations.Born in South Africa, he was active in the anti-apartheid movement.

Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, he was the Berkman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, and a Professor at the University of Chicago. He clerked for Judge Richard Posner on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
